Join us every Friday from April 12th to May 10th for Fundamentals of Lighting.
Build your career, improve your lighting knowledge, and gain a deeper understanding of the science and application of light in this 5-week, 10-module intermediate-level course.
The new course materials include:
- New technologies – types, compatibility, and sustainability
- Additional examples and vocabulary for human perception, vision, and wellness
- New focus on retention and vocabulary building through visual cues
- New resource slides
- Emphasis on comprehension, application, and critical thinking
To be successful, students should be prepared to dedicate the time needed to attend class and read the required 50-60 pages of material per class. The textbook is included as part of your registration if you register before the below deadline.
Instructors for the course will be respected lighting professionals who will be experts in the modules they are teaching.

Registration Fees
Members: $700 + 91.00 HST
Non-Members: $800 + 104.00 HST
IES Emerging Professionals: $575 + 74.75 HST (official IES designation required)
NOTE: If you have been in the lighting industry for 5 years or less, it is beneficial to purchase an Emerging Professional Membership for $95US and pay the reduced rate for the course. Learn more.

What is Provided
Registration fees include a 500-page pdf copy of the Fundamentals of Lighting Manual, copies of the PowerPoint slides, notes and quizzes, and instruction by industry experts.
Access to the online resources will open the Friday before the first session.

Refunds
In the event of cancellation or postponement by the IES Ottawa, the full amount will be refunded. In the event of cancellation by the student, a processing fee will be withheld to cover the costs of Eventbrite.
