Course Overview

Lighting Basics aims to equip students with an understanding of basic lighting concepts, common lighting terminology, and an appreciation for some technologies used in today’s lighting designs. Students will learn about lighting metrics like lumens, footcandles, lux, and candelas, as well as common terms as they relate to lamps, ballasts, LED sources and drivers, and lighting fixtures. The emphasis is placed on understanding the basic concepts rather than in-depth technical discussions on the material.
